Where we help

### When teams bring in a design engineer

Your developers move with agents. Design is still the slow part.

Design at repo speed
Teams running agentic workflows in development. Design lands as a pull request instead of a Figma file waiting for translation. Shipping fast

The interface is the product. Generated UI looks generated.

Polish before AI scales
Products where craft is the differentiator. Spacing, type scale, states, and contrast made by hand, then AI scales what is already decided. Craft

Stories pile up faster than anyone can design them.

Design at story volume
Teams shipping several user stories a day. An agent pipeline builds each one from your components, with review gates before dev. Story volume

Figma says one thing, production says another.

Design and code in sync
Teams whose Figma and live UI drifted apart. We rebuild the components in code and Storybook, so both say the same thing. Design drift

How we work

### From problem to shipped screen. With a person at every gate

1. Problem
We define the problem with you

- User feedback and support insights show where it hurts.
- Your analytics, so priorities come from evidence.
- Stakeholder interviews, plus best practices from competitors.

2. Solution
Solutions before screens

- We propose solutions and agree what to build first.
- Or we work your roadmap and user stories as they are.
- Each story is checked against its requirements and the PRD.

3. Foundation
Layouts and components come first

- Page layouts and core components, set up in code and Storybook.
- Your design system, or a new one built from your brand.
- Nothing gets generated until this foundation is in place.

4. Build
Agents build, a design engineer directs

- A rough wireframe checks the logic before anything is styled.
- Claude Code or Cursor agents build screens from your components.
- A critique agent scores each screen before your team reviews it.

5. Ship
Reviewed, merged, and measured

- Review rounds repeat until the story passes, then it goes to dev.
- You get a pull request in your conventions, ready to merge.
- After each story we log hours, review rounds and learnings.

Design review

### How Other Land reviews AI-generated design

#### Solves the real problem

We check that each screen answers the user problem we defined, with a new solution, not a reskin of the old one.

#### Follows design rules

Best practices, your design system and the PRD, from flows and states to terminology. Each comment becomes a new rule.

#### The design director signs off

Automated checks catch most of it. Our design director reviews each screen by eye, and our engineering lead the code.

What you get

### Design engineering deliverables

A pull request in your repo, in your conventions, ready to review.

A working interface instead of mockups and a spec to translate.

A design system in code, or a UI kit when speed matters more.

Components in Storybook, with the states your product actually uses.

Why us

### Why teams choose Other Land for design engineering

#### Design lands as code

Your repo, your stack, your conventions. Your developer reviews and merges the PR.

#### Built with AI, not by AI

AI generates. An AI-native product designer decides what is good enough to keep and what gets rebuilt.

#### Months of work in a week

With the foundation set, agents build at volume, so a week covers what used to take months.

#### Fewer retries

Prompts written from the design side land on the first try. Cheaper than five rounds of asking for better.

#### Product thinking first

We start from your users, data and stakeholders, not just the ticket. Your roadmap is one option.

#### A studio, not a hire

A design engineer, a design director, and a product manager. Three people on your product, one price.

Who it's for

### From first MVP to enterprise. The process fits your stage and stack

#### A first version or MVP

Startups get a working product in code from day one, on components that can grow with it.

#### A scale-up

Growing teams get design at story volume, inside the stack, tools and rituals they already run.

#### An enterprise product

Large products get design engineers who work within your design system, review gates and release process.

Collaboration models

### Four ways to work with Other Land. Pick the setup that fits you

Need a designer now, without the time or cost of hiring?

Embedded Designer
An AI-native product designer who works inside your team. They own your design and ship on your roadmap. Full-time or part-time, for as long as you need. From 4 weeks

Have ongoing design tasks but not enough work for a full-time designer?

Fractional Support
Ongoing design help, without a full-time hire. A set number of hours each month, for whatever needs doing. Scale up or down anytime. From 40h / month

Have a specific scope of work that needs to get done?

Project Sprint
A clear scope with a clear outcome. A launch, a redesign, or a focused set of changes. We come in, do the work, and ship it. 1 to 3 months

Want to understand why your product is not performing?

UX Diagnostic
A focused look at where your product loses users. We find the problems and what's causing them. You get a clear list of what to fix. 2 to 6 weeks

### Design engineering questions, answered

#### What is a design engineer?

A design engineer is an AI-native product designer who also ships front-end code. The same person decides the layout, the states and the type scale, then builds them in your components and opens the pull request. At Other Land that work runs through an agent pipeline, with a design review on every story before it reaches your developers.

#### Do you actually commit to our repo?

Yes. Other Land works on a branch in your repository and opens a pull request that follows your conventions, linting and component structure. Your developer reviews and merges it like any other PR from the team. Deploy and production access stay on your side, always.

#### Who is responsible for the code quality?

Your developer reviews the code, the same as any PR from the team. We own the design quality, meaning the interface, the system, the states and the consistency, and every story passes our design review first.

#### How do you ship in a week what took months?

The step where a developer rebuilds a mockup disappears. Other Land designs straight in code, sets up the components and rules first, and then agents build screens at volume on that foundation. On AI product work this cut the time to the first clickable flow from 28 to 5 days. A person still reviews every story before it ships.

#### Can't our developers just do this with Cursor?

They can, and many do. The gap is judgment. An Other Land design engineer knows what good looks like before the generation starts, which means fewer prompts, fewer retries, lower token spend, and an interface that doesn't look generated.

#### What if we already have a design system?

We work inside it and keep it clean. If it lives only in Figma, we can turn it into a production-ready system in code. If it doesn't exist, we build one from your brand guidelines.

#### Do you replace our front-end developers?

No. Other Land takes the interface layer, the components, states and layouts, so your developers stay on state, data, logic and infrastructure. Most teams bring Other Land in to unblock a front-end backlog or a redesign, not to replace anyone, and the code stays maintainable by your team after we leave.

#### Do you still design in Figma?

Yes, where your team reviews there. On agent-driven projects most of the work lives in code and Storybook, and screens go to Figma so your product team can review them. We match the approach to how your team already builds.

#### What stack does Other Land work in?

Your stack. Most often React or React Native, with component libraries like ShadCN or React Aria, Storybook, and Claude Code or Cursor with Figma MCP. We build each component in Figma and Storybook at the same time.

#### What is the difference between a design engineer and a front-end developer?

A front-end developer builds what the design says. A design engineer at Other Land decides what the interface should be and builds it in code in the same step, so there is no handoff to lose detail in. Your developers keep state, data, logic and infrastructure; the design engineer owns the interface layer and opens it as a pull request they review.

#### How much does design engineering cost?

Other Land works in weekly sprints and bills every four weeks, like a subscription, with a four-week minimum. You choose the setup: an embedded designer on your roadmap, a project sprint for one release, or fractional support from 40 hours a month. After a 30-minute intro call Other Land sends a written estimate for your actual scope, so you know the number before anything starts.
