Common UX issues

### The four UX problems Other Land finds most often

People sign up, look at the first screen, and never come back.

The first ten minutes
Self-guided onboarding often leaves the value unclear, so activation drops. We make the first steps show what the product does for the user. Activation

The first screen is empty, so the product looks like it does nothing.

Empty states that sell
A screen with no data shows no value. A checklist of first actions, or a sample the user can edit, moves activation further than a redesign does. Empty states

The features are there, but users cannot find their way to them.

Hierarchy and navigation
Complex functionality hides behind unclear navigation. We set the hierarchy, the accents and the entry points, so each page reads at a glance. Navigation

The AI feature is there, but users do not get what it does.

AI features made clear
AI modules are often bolted on and hard to read. We make clear what the feature does, what its answer is based on, and how to correct it. AI features

How it works

### Express or full UX audit at the depth you need

1. Full audit
Everything we can learn about the product, and what to do about it. 3 weeks to 2 months

- An intro call first, to agree the one metric that matters most.
- User interviews and usability testing, when the problem needs them.
- A stakeholder workshop on the problem and what you already tried.
- Support calls and user requests, read as evidence of what breaks.
- Analytics in GA4 or your own tools, for the drop-offs that cost most.
- Competitor analysis, and the reason each issue fails and what it hits.
- Draft designs with ready UX solutions, not a list of problems.

2. Express audit
One goal, a short cycle, and a ranked list of what to change first. 1 to 2 weeks

- We agree one goal first, like conversion, consistency or one broken flow.
- Analytics and support tickets reviewed, where you have them.
- Heuristic review against your market and how others solved it.
- Issues ranked by impact and effort, so quick wins come first.
- References and examples for every fix, so your team can act.

What you get

### UX audit deliverables

The audit in Figma, FigJam or Claude artifacts, each issue marked on its screen.

A live walkthrough with the key stakeholders we agree on with you, recorded for the rest.

Draft designs of the improvements, or exact references where a draft is overkill.

A ranked list of improvements by impact and effort, with quick wins first.

A separate list of minor UI fixes, ready to hand to your developers.

A competitor review of your key flows, with what is worth borrowing.

Why us

### Why teams choose Other Land for a UX audit

#### Fixes that move metrics

Every finding comes with a design proposal aimed at a metric, like activation or conversion, not a list of complaints.

#### High impact, low effort first

Improvements are ranked by impact and effort, so your team starts with the changes that pay back fastest.

#### Shaped to your scope

Express or full, one flow or the whole product. The audit fits your goal, your deadline and how your team works.

#### We push back

We take your context seriously, and we still challenge the team where we disagree, with the evidence behind it.

#### A view across every project

Our design director and product manager work across all studio products, and bring what worked elsewhere to yours.

#### Evidence, not taste

Every recommendation comes from stakeholder context, user research, market analysis, and your own analytics.

Who it's for

### When a UX audit is worth it

Worth running when
- Your edtech, fintech, SaaS, e-commerce or marketplace product works but is hard to use.
- Your numbers dropped and the team disagrees about the reason.
- Support answers the same question every week and nobody has fixed it upstream.
- New users sign up and never come back, and you cannot see where they go.
- You shipped an AI feature and adoption is far below what you expected.
- You are about to spend a quarter on a redesign and want to know what to redesign.
- You built the product with AI and it works, but it does not feel like a product yet.

Not worth it when
- Nothing is live yet. There is no behaviour to look at, and you need discovery and MVP design instead.
- You want it to look better, not work better. That is a redesign, and going straight there is faster and cheaper.
- Your team has no room to build anything for the next few months. Findings go stale, so run it closer to the work.

### UX audit questions, answered

#### How much does a UX audit cost?

An express UX audit at Other Land starts at $2,500, and a full audit with research and design solutions can reach $20,000. We charge in weekly sprints, priced by complexity. You get the number before we start, not after.

#### What do you need from us?

Analytics access, if you have it. Access to users, if the audit includes interviews. And a few hours from the people who know the product, usually a developer, someone from customer support, the product manager and the CEO.

#### How long does a UX audit take?

An express UX audit from Other Land takes one to two weeks, a full audit with research and design solutions three weeks to two months. The variable is the number of flows to review, not the size of your company. You get the timeline with the estimate, before the audit starts.

#### Do you show how to fix what you find?

Always. A list of problems is not a deliverable. In a full audit you get draft designs for the improvements. In an express audit you get concrete references, working examples of how the problem has been solved elsewhere, so your team can build from it.

#### Can you make an AI-built product feel less generic?

Yes, and it is one of the most common reasons teams book a UX audit. An AI-generated product is obvious on sight. That is fine for an MVP and hard to scale from, because the patterns that got you shipped are the ones that break as the product grows. We audit exactly that, and it overlaps with AI product design.

#### Can you give us prompts to fix the design ourselves?

No, we do not hand over prompts. You get ranked findings with designs or references, ready for your team to implement however it builds, AI tools included. If you prefer, we design the fixes and help you ship them.

#### What happens after the audit?

Two options, and we are fine with either. Your team builds from the Figma files or Claude artifacts and the roadmap. Or we form a team on our side, a designer, a design director and a product manager, and implement the improvements with you as an embedded design team. Some clients have stayed with us for more than four years.

#### Is an audit worth it if we already know what is wrong?

Sometimes not, and we will say so on the call. But the common case is a team that knows one thing is wrong and finds thirty. At Canopy the audit surfaced 30 issues and engagement doubled after they were fixed. Almost none of them were the reason we were called in.
Where the same issue repeats on every screen, the fix is usually a design system, not a redesign.

#### What does a UX audit include?

An Other Land UX audit reviews your key flows against analytics and best practice, and in a full audit, user interviews. You get findings ranked by impact and effort, and for each one either draft designs (full audit) or working references of how others solved it (express audit). It ends with a prioritised roadmap your team can start on the next sprint.

#### Do we need a UX audit or usability testing?

Usability testing shows how a few users struggle with specific tasks. A UX audit looks at the whole product, analytics, flows and patterns, and tells you what to fix first. If you do not know where users drop off, start with an audit; Other Land includes interviews and testing in a full audit when the findings need them.
