Questions you may have
How do you work with us as a client?
At Other Land, we take an embedded approach, integrating into your team rather than acting as external consultants. With extensive experience in various tech companies, we adapt quickly to different organizational structures and team practices. We don't use one-size-fits-all methods. Instead, we assess your current situation, your goals, and create a customized plan. We believe in practical problem-solving, avoiding costly exercises and rigid processes.
Why wouldn’t we hire a designer instead?
While there are situations where hiring a designer directly is the perfect choice, we understand that it's not always the case. There are times when partnering with a studio like Other Land makes more sense.
- Capacity Constraints: In scenarios where you have more opportunities to pursue than your current team can manage, we can help you meet your goals and maintain your growth velocity. Whether you have a specific project or product development requirement we fill in while your core team is occupied.
- Early-Stage Startups: If you're operating an early-stage startup and lack in-house design expertise, working with us means you're not just getting a designer but an entire product team. We conduct our own internal design critiques, offer educational activities, and maintain team rituals.
- Fresh Perspective: When you seek an external, fresh perspective on your product and want to challenge existing solutions, we can provide that innovative influx.
What is your pricing structure?
We prioritize achieving results and overcoming challenges collaboratively with you. To maintain flexibility and transparency, we employ a straightforward pricing model based on a monthly flat fee for your project team.
Our monthly team cost is lower than what you'd typically invest in an in-house locally-based team. For precise pricing information and further details, please reach out to us at hi@otherland.studio.
What does working together look like in practice?
In practice, working together with us is streamlined and results-driven. We keep paperwork to a minimum, enabling a quick start to your project. Our approach emphasizes rapid progress through the use of prototypes rather than lengthy presentations. This efficient methodology ensures that we can swiftly translate ideas into tangible solutions.
Who makes up your project team?
- Product Designer: A dedicated professional with extensive and highly relevant experience in the field.
- Project Manager: An expert in project management, ensuring smooth coordination and execution.
- Head of Design: An experienced leader overseeing the design aspects of the project.
We fondly refer to this team composition as "2 hands and 3 brains."
Will we be able to communicate directly with designers?
Absolutely! We encourage direct communication between you and the designer(s) on your OL team, as well as other members of the project team. We believe that open and transparent communication is fundamental to a successful collaboration. Consider us your cloud design department, ready to work closely with you throughout the project.
Do you work with existing design systems?
Yes! We have the flexibility to collaborate with your current design system and expand it as required. If necessary, we can also create a new design system from the ground up or provide consulting to enhance your existing system.
How do you typically start a project?
We’re flexible and can start a project with or without clear requirements. You don’t need spent a lot of time creating documentation for us. We like to start with a few collaborative workshops, define problems, interview users, discuss ideas and validate them so we can deliver top-notch design.
